Building a Gaming PC

After the thrive of the console gaming it appears to me that PC gaming is in some sort of decline. Most of my friends own a console – Xbox 360, PS3 or Nintendo Wii. They consider them to be the better choice when it comes to gaming. You invest around £700 for the console itself and a decent TV and you are ready to go.

However for some of us PC gaming has much to offer. First of all you can upgrade, overclock and customize your PC in a numerous ways. Second you can actually use it for something else other than playing video games. But building a perfect gaming system is like choosing where to place the retail shop fitting room – it can be tricky. Here are some basic rules how to do it the right way:

First, start with your budget. A gaming system can turn out to be very expensive. Some top end systems go up to £3000. Think about how much money you are ready to spend.

Then choose the motherboard and the power supply. They are the backbone of your system. Choose wisely, you need at least 1KW Power supply so you can be sure that you will have a stable system. When you are certain that you have picked up the right one – choose a CPU. The CPU is the main brain of your system, so at this point of time I advise you to go for at least a four-core processor.

The video card or the GPU is maybe the most important component of your gaming PC. If you are a gaming enthusiast I advise you to go for a double VGA configuration. This means that you will have two GPUs in your PC and you will be able to play all the latest games on full details.

And last but not least you should choose a fast hard drive, or even better- SSD. Don’t forget to pick a big, roomy pc case with at least four fans so you can keep your system cool.
